Every morning I wake up and my theme music starts playing, because it’s time for another episode of “The Bill Show”, starring everybody’s, or at least my favorite Bill – ME.

*

Today’s episode #………wow!  I just did the math on that and I’m going to take the liberty of rounding down and throwing an –ish in there because…….DANG!  So 15,000-ish

*

Today’s episode starts with the star of the show, writing an award winning blog post which garners hundreds of Facebook likes, retweets and super positive comments.  #Humbled #Amazed #ThankYouAll #WateryEyes #JawQuiver #FantasyWorld

*

Okay, so there’s a little fantasy thrown into my reality show.

*

But here’s the real deal.

*

The reality of my reality show, is that it’s in fact, a fantasy.

*

As a Christian, my show, my life, should NEVER be about me.

*

Donald Miller (one of my favorite authors) said it best, “The most difficult lie I ever contended with is this: Life is a story about me.” – Blue Like Jazz (One of my favorite books of all time).

*

“I feel ya D-Mill!”  That’s my bro handle for Donald Miller.  I came up with that when we were hanging out in Portland that one time, that we were getting together and stuff about writing something together or something.  I remember we were laughing a lot about stuff and all, because we formed a really strong bond.  Anyway I think he calls me Bro-seph and thinks I’m Bro-tastic……Man, I’m terrible at writing fantasy!  D-Mill is much better at writing truth –

“The most difficult lie I ever contended with is this: Life is a story about me.”

*

I’ve believed that lie for a long time.  Yet even after I knew the truth, “The Bill Show” continued to air.  Even after I became an Unlikely Christian, even after I highlighted that quote in Blue Like Jazz and felt the sting of conviction, even after my pastor basically said the same thing Monday night, on Tuesday I awoke to the sound of my familiar theme music.

*

So if that’s the lie, what’s the truth?

*

You know what it is.  It’s not about you.  The truth – The story, the show is about God, starring God and yes with God’s theme music, which is way better than ours anyway.  Period.

*

Here’s some more reality for your reality show – As a Christian, you have to cancel your own show.

*

Yep, cancel it.

*

Immediately.

*

No, your show can’t be the warm-up act to God’s headlining show!  You are not the “Friends” to God’s “Seinfeld!”

*

No, you can’t continue “The You Show” and just add God to the cast!

*

No, you can’t rename the show “God” starring God and you.

*

It’s “The God Story”, starring God and only God.  He’s also the producer, director, cinematographer, key grip (whatever that is) and writer.

*

But there is some good news for you the actor/actress.  As writer, God’s written you in.

*

Now, it’s not a huge part, you’re certainly not going to get 4th billing behind The Trinity, but you’re not just some extra either.  It’s a part God wrote specifically for you.  Just for you, with you and only you in mind.  I don’t know what it’s going to look like.  God’s not gonna let you see the script ahead of time either.  It may not be the exact story you had planned, in fact chances are it will look quite a bit different, but it’s the best part for you.  Just listen to the Director.

*

And yeah I know, giving up the starring role for a small part doesn’t seem like the logical thing to do, but God has the role you were literally born to play and it’s in His story.

*

God’s Story is infinite and you are in it right now, so cancel your show and embrace the part you were born to play in God’s.

*

“The Bill Show” – Episode #15,000-ish – Wrote a blog post, then abruptly cancelled his show.
