The Kingdom Assignment

I love to read, absolutely LOVE to read, and since becoming an Unlikely Christian I’ve read a ton of Christian books.

*

Not sure what to get me for Christmas?  Giftcards to the local Christian Bookstore will do just fine ;-)

*

Whenever I read, if something really jumps out at me, I write it down in a journal so I can refer to it again later.  I call these writings ”Book Nuggets.”  Why did I feel a need to nickname the quotes I write down from other books?  Well…..that’s just how I roll.

*

Anyway, as the saying goes, “Sharing is caring” so I figured now is as good a time as any to start sharing some of these ”Book Nuggets” with you.

*

Here’s a couple of nuggets from “The Kingdom Assignment” – Denny & Leesa Bellesi

*

Nugget #1

“Opportunities are around us every day.  We live & work in a world of people that need to see that God cares and makes a difference.  You & I may be the only glimpse of Jesus some people will ever see”

*

Nugget #2

“Sometimes people think of witnessing for Christ as something that’s done totally apart from anything else (carefully prepared monologue).  Witnessing isn’t some obligation set apart as “Time to talk about God”.  Rather it’s something we do everyday of our lives.  It’s who we are, where we go, what we do as well as what we say.  All of our thoughts, actions and words are a living billboard for Jesus and His Kingdom.  People don’t want to hear a sermon.  They want to see one lived out in the lives of the believers around them.”

*

Man I like that.

*

Nugget #1 – I can’t really add anything to that.  It kind of says it all.

*

Nugget #2 – So true.  Actions beat a “Turn or Burn” speech 10 times out of 10 for me.  Of course I realize that not all dialogue is “Turn or Burn” and I’m not trying to say that dialogue isn’t important and neither was the book.  Words are powerful, no doubt about it but as the saying goes, “Seeing is believing.”
