Christians VS Homosexuals – The Final Battle

Okay…….So a couple of weeks ago I bought a Chick Fil-a t-shirt because I thought it looked cool and I’m a big fan of their chicken sandwiches.  But now, thanks to a war that’s been raging on for what feels like as long as the unrest in the Middle East, my t-shirt is now a stupid political statement.  I can no longer wear it to show my support for waffle fries without people thinking I hate homosexuals.  STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!

*

Well I’m not going to stand for this anymore nor am I going to tuck my new shirt away in the closet until enough time has passed or an adequate apology is given to the LGBT Community.  This stupid back and forth war between Christians and Homosexuals needs to end, especially before Under Armour gets involved because I own way too many of their shirts 😉

*

So here it is.  Here’s how this thing should end.

*

I give you, the final battle between Christians and Homosexuals.

*

Let’s get ready to RUUUUMMMMMBBBBBLLLLLEEEEE!

*

Ding-Ding-Ding!

*

The Christians come out swinging with a boycott of Starbucks for their support of gay marriage, but the damage is very short lived because Christians love their coffee.  Some have even been known to pick a church based on how good their java is.  (I HATE Christian boycotts by the way.)

*

Which leaves them unprotected from the homosexual’s counter punch of boycotting Chick Fil-a because it’s president believes in traditional marriage between a man and a woman.  Ohh…..that’s gotta hurt!  (Side note:  Duh…..of course he believes in traditional marriage, his restaurants are closed on Sundays.  Was this really shocking news to anyone?)

*

BAM!  It’s a Biblical punch to the homosexual’s gut – Leviticus 18:22“Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin.”

*

ZONK!  What’s this?  The homosexuals are using the Christian’s own weapons against them!  Matthew 7:1“Don’t judge….”  Matthew 7:3-5“Hypocrite!”  Wait, is this even fair?

*

We need a judge’s ruling on this please.

*

Yes, the judges deem this gutsy move by the homosexuals as fair play.  What an exciting end to round 9 billion74!  The Christians might need to go to their bag of tricks to make up for that last scripture barrage that had them on the ropes!  Don’t be surprised if they break out a “God hates fags” sign, because they’ll want to even things up quick on the judge’s scorecard.

*

No question, round 9 billion75 is going to be a doozie!

*

Ding-Ding-Ding!

*

Well……here we go!

*

Looks like the Christians are going to stick with their scripture warfare, probably a 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 uppercut on the way……BUT…..Wait!  What’s this?!?!  I don’t believe it!!!!  The Christians just dropped the “Greatest 2 commandments in the Law” bomb!  A huge move, but I can’t comprehend how that’s going to help them win!

*

Jesus said, the greatest commandment in the Law is to, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” Matthew 22:37-40

*

!!!BOOM!!!

*

This match has just ended in a fantastic turn of events.

*

The winner by knockout…….LOVE!

*

Right Christians?

*

Game, set, match!

*

Jesus has called us to love our neighbors as ourselves and we can’t do that while at the same time lobbing grenades at them.  So stop lobbing grenades and love!

*

Love, we are called to love.

*

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.”  1 Corinthians 13:4-8

*

We are called to love.

Not love then try to fix what we see as wrong, just love.

Not love then try to convert, just love.

Not love as we tell them, “You’re doing it wrong!”, just love.

Not love while we try to convince them that our ways are the right ways.

Just love and maybe one day hurts will be healed and healthy dialogue can begin

*

Probably not the way some Christians think this fight should end.  I’m sure I’ve disappointed more than a few but if you look at Jesus as a model, that’s what He’d do and that’s what He calls us to do.

*

Think about it.  Jesus would never carry a sign that says, “God hates fags” nor would he lead or participate in bullying campaigns, boycotts or any other type of attacks against homosexuals.  He certainly wouldn’t be engaged in this ridiculous back and forth ping pong match with teeth we’ve had going on for the past, oh I don’t know, forever.  The only group of people Jesus ever had negative words for/about were the Pharisees, the religious hypocrites who looked down their noses at others.

*

Yeah Christians, I know, I’m ruffling some feathers here.  I know you think you are fighting the good fight, like protecting the sanctity of marriage as it’s Biblically defined.  I get that.  It’s God’s Word so it shouldn’t be ignored or glossed over, but does God really need us to fight for that as hard as we are and in the manner some of us are?  Did He ask us to?  He definitely asked us to take care of widows and orphans – James 1:27.  How are we doing in that area?  Are we fighting as hard for them as we are against homosexuals?  Be truthful here.

*

Why are so many Christians quick to join the fight against homosexuality but not other things found in God’s Word?

*

Like circumcision – Genesis 17:10“This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.”

*

Facial hair – Leviticus 19:27“Do not trim off the hair on your temples or trim your beards.”

*

Women’s hair dos and dont’s – 1 Corinthians 11:6“Yes, if she refuses to wear a head covering, she should cut off all her hair! But since it is shameful for a woman to have her hair cut or her head shaved, she should wear a covering.”

*

Divorce –  1 Corinthians 7:10-11 “But for those who are married, I have a command that comes not from me, but from the Lord.  A wife must not leave her husband. But if she does leave him, let her remain single or else be reconciled to him. And the husband must not leave his wife.”  When was the last time you saw a bunch of Christians picketing a courthouse where divorces are filed/finalized?

*

The list goes on and on, which makes me wonder if the fight is really about protecting the sanctity of marriage, especially when so many Christians aren’t protecting their own marriage.  It saddens me to say, but I think what it really boils down to is intolerance.  Go ahead and explain to me otherwise.

*

Christians, we need to answer the call to love.  We don’t have to agree, condone, back etc…. but we are called to love.  It doesn’t mean we have to love other people’s actions, practices, beliefs etc…. but we are called to love God and love others.  Jesus, Himself, said these are the greatest two commandments and that “all the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

*

If we as Christians lived our lives obeying the two greatest commandments and did the things Jesus asked/called us to do, we would flip this world in an unrecognizable way.

*

So put down the grenades and start loving.
