Now trending in my brain …. Invitation …. Come away

Couple of things.
*
First of all, I really want to write about the amazing experience I had on my very first Men’s Retreat but truthfully I’m still processing some of it.  God is kind of doing a number on me right now.
*
I can feel it.
*
I don’t really know exactly what that means but I can just feel something brewing/building.  I know that may sound a little strange but…..oh well.
*
I’m anxious to see what’s around the corner.
*
In the meantime, here’s what’s trending in my mind right now.
*
I was sitting in church this morning listening to a great message about Jesus being the bread of life.
*
It was one of those messages that smacks you upside the head, a message that can and will change your life forever in a positive way if you take it and run with it.  Really, really great stuff!  Bravo Brandon, Bravo!
*
I was loving it.  And then it hit me.
*
There were countless people right around the corner still snoozing.  Whole neighborhoods full of people who wouldn’t be hearing this or  any “Good News” messages today.
*
I felt bad for them.  I wish they could’ve heard it.  I longed for them to hear it.
*
Before I became an Unlikely Christian, I used to wonder why Christians wanted other people to come to church, to hear about Jesus.  I always thought, there must be some ulterior motive.  What’s in it for them?  Are they going for Christian of the month or something?  If they save somebody, will they get to keep some of that tithe money Christians are always wasting by giving to the church?
*
It saddens me to say that I almost likened those Christians that wanted so desperately to tell me about God to those elementary school kids that just got out of a fund raising assembly,

*

“And if you sell 5,678 logs of this overpriced cookie dough, this bike, yes this bike right here, that will forever cement your status as super cool, will be yours.

*

SO WHO WANTS THIS BIKE!?!?!?

*

I SAID…..WHO WANTS THIS BIKE!?!?!?

*

WHO!?!?!

*

WHO!?!?!

*

ALRIGHT!  THEN GO GET IT!!!!!  AND DON’T FORGET TO START WITH YOUR GRANDPARENTS!!!!”
*
We don’t even answer our door on fundraising day.
*
But now I get it.  Now I’m the guy who wants everybody to know that that thing they are missing in their life can be found.  That void that they can’t seem to fill with anything else can be filled.  As the song goes, “There’s a God shaped hole in all of us”.  Many spend so much time trying to force in pieces that don’t fit.  It’s a God shaped hole.  Only God will fit there, nothing else.  Trust me, I tried.
*
I thought about those people this morning and I was sad they were missing it.
*
And just now I started thinking, man, these same people are going to miss it again next week as well and the week after that, and so on and so on …..  As Christians that should bother everyone of us.
*
I don’t like being bothered so……I’m going to do something about it.
*
Christmas is right around the corner.  I remember reading somewhere that people are more open to going to church on Easter and Christmas.  So I’m going to start thinking and praying about who to invite to church and I invite you to do the same.
*
I’m telling you right now that this is WAY out of my comfort zone but I’m going to do it anyway.
*
And if you are somebody who came across this website and you’re just kicking the tires of Christianity, please know that if somebody invites you to church, if I invite you to church, we aren’t trying to win the cool bike. There’s something to this God thing.  The fact that you’re here reading this is no accident.  You owe it to yourself to check into it.  Do it in private at first if that’s what you need to do.  That’s what I did.  Ask God to reveal Himself to you.  He will.  Have questions?  E-mail me – me@unlikeychristian.com  I’ll talk to you, do my best to answer your questions and/or point you in the right direction.  Bottom line is I’m still fairly new in this whole thing myself but I took a chance and am so thankful I did.  I don’t know where I’d be right now if I hadn’t but it wouldn’t be anywhere good.  Oh sure I could’ve faked it for awhile longer but my fake tank was on fumes.  Don’t be so proud that you pass up what God, your creator, who loves you, has planned for your life.
*
There’s a fabulous song we sing in church called, “Come Away”:
“Come away with Me
It’s never too late, it’s not too late
It’s not too late for you
I have a plan for you
I have a plan for you
It’s gonna be wild
It’s gonna be great
It’s gonna be full of Me
Open up your heart and let Me in”
*
That’s not just a song for the church goers who sing it.  It’s for you, yes you, the person who’s reading this right now.
*
Check into God, to this whole God thing.  You won’t be sorry.
*
As for my Christian brothers and sisters, reach out.  You are the conduits.  Jesus has a plan for your neighbors and coworkers.  Plans that “Are gonna be wild, great and full of God” , unless they never hear it.  Give them a chance to hear.
*
This isn’t my Elementary School Fundraiser Speech, I’m not promising you a bike so no need to act like a zombie horde on the search for brains. Just be true, and know that God will be with you.  And you will meet resistance, you’ll be told no and that’s okay, it‘s not over.  “I mean was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!?” (that last sentence was specifically for Doubting Matthew as he loves a good movie quote thrown in here and there.)  Hey bottom line is at least now they’ll know who to come to when their hearts soften.
*
Look I’m not abdicating shoving Christianity down people’s throat.  Nobody wants that.  But how about, “Hey, do you guys have a church home?  Man, we really love our church so if you are ever interested, we’d love for you to check it out with us one day.  No pressure, no new guy tags, no singling you out, embarrassing you.  It’s all good and I think you guys would enjoy it.  Just let me know.”
*
Let’s be bold Christians.  Let’s step out and up and reach people.  That’s hard to do from comfort zones.  I’m trying through this medium but my neighbors and coworkers deserve more from God’s people than a blog post and that’s what I aim to start giving them.
*
And any readers from North East Fort Worth, Keller, Watauga, Southlake TX areas, I hearby invite you to experience Life Change with others next weekend at Keystone Church.  You can catch today’s message on their website as well.  Come on, what do you have to lose?
*

“God has a plan for you.  It’s gonna be wild.  It’s gonna be great.  It’s gonna be full of Him!”

*
You have everything to gain!
